The constitution of the Liberal Party of Canada specifies that “upon the occurrence of a leadership trigger event,” such as the leader’s resignation, the national board of directors must convene within 27 days.
Following consultations with the caucus, the board may appoint an interim leader. Key party officials will also be required to set a date for the leadership vote and establish other relevant guidelines for the race.
