Canada/Tourist Visa/ETA

A visitor visa, also called as temporary resident visa is an official document stick to the passport, required for most of the travelers while travelling to Canada. It shows that a person entering to Canada meets the requirement needed.

Duration Of The Stay:

A person can stay up to 6 months in Canada. A document called visitor record is issued at the port of entry indicating the date of leaving the country. The entry document that a person gets depends upon the:

  • The travel document that you plan to travel with
  • The nationality
  • The country that issued the travel document
  • The method of travel to Canada.

Eligibility :

  • A valid passport
  • Good health
  • No criminal background
  • Convincing proof of ties such as assets, job or family that will take you back to your home country
  • Enough finances for the stay
  • Convincing an immigration officer that you will leave at the end of the visit.

How to apply:

You can apply for visa through online portal or on paper.

For online application:

  • A complete filled application
  • A scanned copy of your documents and a valid debit or credit card is required.
  • Payment of application and biometrics through online.

For paper application:

A full package of required documents will vary according to the applicant’s home country. Print, sign and date the application form along with the documents. Payment of application and biometrics should be included in the file package.

After you apply:

After submitting the file, a letter for the collection of biometrics indicating the location where to give it will be received. Duration of 30 days is given for the submission of biometrics. Processing times depend upon the visa office.

eTA VISA ( electronic travel authorization): Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) – Are you a foreign national exempt from a TRV? You may need an eTA.

Study Permit/Extension

A document issued by the IRCC department of Canada for foreign nationals to study in Canada is called as a study permit which needs to be applied before entering to Canada.

Duration of study permit :

It depends upon the choice of courses that a student opts either there is requirement of prerequisite courses for the main program or one year, two year, bachelors degree and masters degree program. The study permit will be valid for the length of those courses. If a student fails to finish courses before the date on the permit, then he or she needs to extend their study permit. If you leave Canada during your studies, you need to show valid proof that you are still enrolled in your school while returning to Canada on the border services.

Checklist for Eligibility requirements :

You can study in Canada if you:

  • Are enrolled in designated learning institute (DLI)
  • Prove you have enough money to pay your expenses that are tuition fee, living expenses and return transportation.
  • Are in good health and get a medical exam
  • Have no criminal background
  • Prove to an officer that you are leaving Canada after expiry of your study permit

Exemptions who do not need study permit in Canada:

  • Staff and family of foreign representatives
  • Courses last for 6 months or less
  • Members of foreign armed forces
  • Registered Indians in canada
  • Minor children if they are refugees or their parents are refugees or refugee claimant
  • If a minor is already in Canada with a parent who has a work or study permit

Work on or off campus:

If you are a full-time student at a designated learning institute in Canada, you are allowed to work on or off campus according to the regulations of the IRCC. This condition will be mentioned on the given study permit document.

  • Letter of acceptance from the college or institution
  • Proof of identity
  • Proof of financial support
  • CAQ, if applying in Quebec
  • A custodian declaration (for minors)

How To Apply

Both, online or paper applications are accepted but online applications are mostly preferred and recommended for convenient and quick processing.

Outside canada :

  • Scanned copies of your documents
  • Valid debit/visa card
  • Complete your application form according to the instruction guide
  • Fees will include biometrics and processing of application
  • Depending on the situation a student may need to pay third-party fees for medical exams, police certificates, language testing

Inside Canada: In certain situations, who are currently in Canada needs to apply for study permit for example:

  • Your spouse or common-law partner or parent has a valid study or work permit
  • You’re an exchange student or visiting student
  • You completed a short-term course or study program required to be accepted at a DLI

AFTER YOU APPLY:

After submitting your application, you will receive a letter explaining where and when you need to give your biometrics. Processing times may depend on the visa offices from where you are applying from.

Study Permit Extension

once a student has finished his education as per the valid study permit you may want to study further, and you may be eligible for an extension of your study permit to keep studying you need to know

When to apply :

you should apply to extend your permit at least 30 days before it expires make sure your passport does not expire at that time you cannot extend your study permit beyond your passport expiry date.
